Luke, a writer, wrote about the
life of Jesus. What kind of work did he
do to write an accurate story about Jesus?
Look at his beginning:
“Inasmuch as many have undertaken
to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, just as those who
from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word have handed them
down to us, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything
carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order,
most excellent Theophilus; so that you might know the exact truth about the
things you have been taught.” Luke
1:1-3
Luke also set Jesus’ life in the
contex of current political events:
“Now in the fifteenth year of the
reign of Tiberius Caesar, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, and Herod
was tetrarch of Galilee and his brother Phillip was tetrarch of the region of
Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, in the high
priesthood of Annas and Caiphas, the word of God came to John, the son of
Zacharias in the wilderness.” Luke
3:1-2
